(7/26) After being up until midnight after getting back from the subway and the game, we all got up after 8, ate a nice breakfast and headed south on the 95 from New York into New Jersey. Our first stop was the capital city of Trenton. It was very small and somewhat sleepy. The capitol building is under renovation, so we found the capital plaza and took some pictures there and spent about 20 minutes playing with the Aerobie Disc before hopping back in the car.
Our next stop was further up the Delaware River, where Washington and his forces crossed from Valley Forge on the night of December 25, 1776 before heading down the river to Trenton to take on the mainly Hessian army of the British. We toured the visitors center and found the old ferry crossing in the state park. Weather was still cloudy and in the mid-70s.
We crossed west over the river into Pennsylvania and headed south past downtown Philadelphia to our hotel by Wineberg College in a nice older section of the suburbs.
After a nice rest, Brad drove for his first time on the trip back about 10 miles to the game. The Phillies surprised all of us by beating the Astros 9-0 behind a strong pitching performance of Nola. Citizens Bank is very kid friendly, with a nice big play area, baseball cards for the kids and a kid-only food stand. It was a very cool night in the upper 60s to low 70s with a constant breeze from the south. We all needed our jackets on over half the game.
Tim likes Philadelphia's stadium the best so far due to location and easy exit, as it is in a complex with all the other major sports venues. Sam loved the stadium due to the best animation on the big screen so far. Sariah loved the Phillie Phanatic mascot, too.
Our drive back was easy and we got in bed at midnight again.
