After struggling out of bed (for most of us), we traveled on the MARTA to the campus of Georgia Tech and then took their trolley into the heart of campus. We got some bogus info and ended up walking the middle of campus for a half-mile before finally getting into the admissions presentation 30 minutes late.
Timothy, Solinda and Brad had the session and the walk around Georgia Tech as the highlight of their day. Also, we ate a good lunch and toured their student eating center. Centennial Park was our next stop after a short walk. All of us got at least our heads wet and watched Sam and Sariah flit in and out of the water plumes with lots of little Atlanta natives. It was nice for about 5 minutes to douse our heads and cool off from the 97 degree heat with only 55 percent humidity.
After a nap break at the Quality Inn, we took the Atlanta-area downtown Tram to and from the Martin Luther King Historical District. We enjoyed the eternal flame exhibit out by his and his wife's graves before going into the museum. Lots of great information was in there about Rosa Parks, Gandhi and more. We also walked up the street to his childhood home, Ebenezer Baptist Church (where he was the minister) and learned some about the housing history of the area and other equality issues. We then boarded the tram and dropped at Peachtree Center to take the MARTA south to the Braves game.
The Atlanta Braves hosted the clutch hitting defending World Champion San Francisco Giants. After 3 innings, the Giants took a commanding 6-0 lead on 4 home runs and the Braves looked doomed. However, starting in the bottom of the sixth, the braves scored 7 runs with a 2-out 9th inning homer by AJ Pierzynski to send the game into extra innings. The score remained tied at 7-7 until the 12th inning when the Giants scored a run on 3 2-out singles. Then, the magic continued in the bottom of the 12th inning when Addonis Garcia hit a 2-run homerun to win it! What a great game! It was Jennifer's first live professional and we attribute the great action to her newness (8 home runs hit in the game).
