After sleeping in yet again in our best accommodations so far, we ate a full breakfast and headed west on the peninsula to the Pinellas County Heritage Village - still in the city of Clearwater, Florida.
We learned great information about the history about the state of Florida's extensive history in their visitors' center. For example after the French and Indian War, Spain gave up their holdings in Florida to the British and England in turn gave up their claims and territories in Cuba back to the Spanish.
We then toured the House of Seven Gables, which was built in 1907. Everyone enjoyed all of the details in every room of the home. It was also nice since it was raining hard outside. We also had a self-guided tour of another late 19th century home, and then a church and a bandstand. It was fun running from building to building in the rain. We stopped by the gift shop and bought several mementos.
On the way back, we ate at Checkers and then stopped to gas up and got some fresh fruit as everyone has been craving it.
The Tampa Bay Rays took on the New York Mets in a very packed Tropicana Field. We got there nice and early so we could purchase tickets and get into batting practice. We got two balls, which is the best ever and Nathan got one right on the hands... Sariah got to touch some rays and didn't want to feed fresh fish into their mouths. We sat at the very top of the stadium until they opened up additional seats. The game was very exciting with 7 runs scored in the first inning and several home runs and doubles against the fence. The pitchers settled down and the game ran quickly to the 9th with the Rays winning by a score of 5-4. Syndergaard was throwing 96-8 mph for the Mets all game, which was quite impressive.
We got back into the Comfort Inn in Clearwater through a flooded back street around 10 and everyone settled into bed to get ready for church in the morning...
