Everyone got to sleep in until 9 if they needed, we ate breakfast in the resort and headed out of the southern end of Miami with no traffic problems whatsoever. Highway 41 took us back into the Everglades past all of the airboat rides and over to the Visitors' Center for the Everglades National Park. We went into the center and the gift shop. The heat was intense and no one was prepared for the hike loop in the middle of the day, so we just learned things there at the center. Jennifer was kind enough to buy all of the kids a keepsake there. She is really hitting it off with all of us.
We continued to head west through an Indian Reservation and then on through more swamps. This time, though, they were those of the Cypress National Monument. It was very neat to see cypress, pine and palm trees interspersed together for mile after mile. A very unique, untouched and uncrowded place after all the opposite in South Beach...
Sprawling mansion, golf coursed and manicured vegetation met us for about 10 miles before we stopped in Naples at a Waffle House for breakfast or lunch items at 1:00. Jennifer's pick was long overdue since she wanted it back in Atlanta and we hadn't seen one in hundreds of miles. Everyone devoured their food and we enjoyed the cozy atmosphere.
Brad drove, while Jen navigated, 2 hours north on the 75 to the town of _Clearwater, which is on the west peninsula side of the Bay with St. Petersburg. We are about 9 miles north of Tropicana Field and will watch the game against the Mets tonight.
The Tampa Bay Bridge is an incredible engineering feat. We were over the water about 10 miles as a storm was coming in. The bridge went quite high and view in all directions was incredible. The waves were whipping but quite a few boats were still out. When we got off the north end, we noticed horses with riders were walking in the water at least 50 yards off the shore of the island we were on...very unique and Sariah especially loved it.
The Comfort Inn and Suites is the largest and most luxurious stay so far and we all relaxed in the rooms with take-out pizza and wings from 4:30 on. We did get two loads of emergency laundry done, also...
